Banner Products at a Glance

Five distinct banner formats, each engineered for a specific environment and use case. Here's how to choose the right one.

Outdoor Vinyl Banners

Solvent inks  |  Weather-resistant  |  Years of outdoor durability

Our premium opaque (Blockout) PVC vinyl is tear-resistant, flame-retardant (B1 Certified), and reinforced with a polyester fabric layer for dimensional stability. A bright white, smooth scrim surface ensures vivid, accurate color even on large graphics. Solvent-based inks bond with the vinyl at a molecular level — UV-resistant and built to withstand rain, wind, and sun for years without fading or peeling.

Best for: Storefronts, outdoor events, festivals, construction site signage, grand openings, and any outdoor application where the banner will be exposed to weather for extended periods.

Mesh Banners

36% wind pass-through  |  PVC-coated polyester  |  9.59 oz

Mesh banners allow approximately 36% of wind to pass through the material, dramatically reducing the load on banner supports, fence attachments, and structural ties during outdoor use. Our PVC-coated 9.59 oz polyester mesh maintains print quality and color fidelity while eliminating the wind resistance that causes standard vinyl banners to tear or pull hardware from walls in exposed conditions.

Best for: Fence-mounted signage, construction hoardings, outdoor events in open or elevated locations, sports fields, and any installation where wind load is a real concern.

Indoor Banners

Aqueous inks  |  Wide color gamut  |  Exhibit & gallery quality

Indoor banners are produced with aqueous (water-based) inks on substrates chosen for close-range viewing quality — vivid color, smooth gradients, and sharp photographic detail. The wider color gamut of aqueous inks compared to solvent makes indoor banners the right choice when color accuracy and image quality are the priority over outdoor durability.

Best for: Trade show exhibits, gallery installations, convention displays, corporate events, retail interiors, and temporary indoor signage where the viewing distance is 3–10 feet.

Vinyl Backdrops

Wide-format solvent printing  |  Up to 20'×8'  |  Event-grade

Full wall-scale vinyl graphics that transform the back of a booth or event space into a branded environment. Vinyl backdrops produce crisp, vibrant imagery at scales that fabric alternatives can't match for image sharpness. Finished with optional grommets, hems, and pole pockets for versatile hanging configurations on pipe-and-drape, tension frames, or walls.

Best for: Trade show back walls, convention booths, step-and-repeat photo areas, film and event backdrops, brand activations, and any installation where the full back wall of a space needs to be a graphic.

Panoramic & Photo-Style Banners

Photo gloss, photo matte, or canvas  |  Artist & photographer grade

Wide-format prints on photo gloss, photo matte, or canvas — not vinyl — for photographers and artists who need a banner-scale print with the color fidelity and surface quality of a fine art substrate. Panoramic banners on photo paper produce a genuinely different visual result than vinyl: smoother gradients, richer tonal range, and a surface that reads as art rather than signage. Grommets added on request only.

Best for: Photography exhibition displays, panoramic landscape art, gallery banners, artist booth statement pieces, and any large-format application where image quality takes precedence over outdoor durability.

Indoor vs. Outdoor: Choosing the Right Ink & Material

The single most important banner decision is environment. Indoor and outdoor banners use different inks, different substrates, and are engineered for different viewing conditions. Using an indoor banner outside — or paying for outdoor durability you don't need indoors — is a common and avoidable mistake.

Indoor Banners

  • Inks: Aqueous (water-based) — wider color gamut, richer detail
  • Substrates: Photo gloss, photo matte, canvas, fabric
  • Viewing distance: 3–15 feet — designed for close-range impact
  • Durability: Not weatherproof — for temporary indoor use
  • Color quality: Superior — best choice when image fidelity matters most
  • Pick it when: Your banner lives in a controlled indoor environment

Outdoor Banners

  • Inks: Solvent-based — UV-resistant, weather-bonded
  • Substrates: PVC vinyl, PVC mesh
  • Viewing distance: 15–100+ feet — designed for visibility at distance
  • Durability: Rain, wind, and UV resistant — built for years outdoors
  • Color quality: Excellent at distance — slightly narrower gamut than aqueous
  • Pick it when: Your banner will be exposed to weather or direct sun

Finishing Options

How a banner is finished is as important as how it's printed. The right finishing keeps your banner hanging securely, looking flat, and surviving the conditions it's designed for.

Nickel Grommets

Standard on vinyl and mesh banners. Grommets are placed in all four corners and every 2–3 feet along the edges, depending on banner size. The grommet's reinforced eyelet prevents tearing at the hang points under load — especially important for outdoor banners exposed to wind. For panoramic and photo-style banners, grommets are added on request only.

Hemmed Edges

A folded-and-welded reinforcement along the perimeter of the banner. Hems add significant structural integrity — distributing load evenly across the edge rather than concentrating stress at individual grommet points. Essential for large outdoor banners in windy conditions and recommended for any banner that will be displayed for extended periods.

Pole Pockets

A sewn or welded channel along the top (and optionally bottom) edge that a pole or dowel slides through — eliminating the need for grommets on installations where the banner hangs from a horizontal rod. Common for retail displays, trade show hanging systems, and any installation using a top-bar or tension system rather than individual tie points.

Custom Sizes: Going Beyond the Standard

Our listed sizes cover the vast majority of banner orders — but if your project requires something outside those dimensions, our production capabilities extend significantly further.

Vinyl — Up to 150'

Our wide-format vinyl printing capabilities go far beyond standard banner sizes — up to 150 feet long and 16 feet tall. Building wraps, parking garage signage, festival perimeter banners, and stadium-scale graphics are all within reach. Contact us with your dimensions for a custom quote.

Mesh — Up to 30'×10'

Large mesh panels for construction hoardings, fence wraps, and open-air event installations up to 30 feet wide by 10 feet tall. Wind-load calculations become critical at these scales — mesh is often the only viable material for large outdoor installations in exposed locations.

Specialty Materials

Beyond vinyl and mesh, we can produce large-format graphics on canvas, fabric, acrylic, and metal for projects that require a specific material characteristic. Custom finishing — specialized grommets, sewn edges, reinforced panels, or custom pole pocket placement — is available for any format at scale.

For anything outside our standard size listings, contact us with your dimensions, material preference, and finishing requirements. We'll provide a custom quote.

File Setup for Banner Printing

Large-format banners have different file requirements than standard print products. Here's what matters most.

Resolution: 100–150 DPI at Full Size

Banners are viewed from distance — not inches away. 100–150 DPI at the finished banner dimensions is the appropriate resolution standard for vinyl and large-format prints. Attempting to submit a 300 DPI file at full banner size creates unnecessarily large files without meaningful quality improvement. For photo-style and panoramic banners on photo paper, 150–200 DPI is preferred where the viewing distance is closer.

Color Mode: CMYK

All banner products are printed in CMYK. Design in CMYK for the most accurate color match between your screen and the finished banner. For outdoor vinyl and mesh banners, be aware that solvent ink on vinyl produces slightly different color characteristics than digital press printing — if precise color matching is critical, request a color proof before your full production run.

Bleed & Safe Zone

Add 0.25"–0.5" of bleed on all sides for full-bleed designs. Keep all critical content — text, logos, key graphic elements — at least 0.5" inside the trim edge. For very large banners (8 feet and wider), increase the safe zone to 1" on all sides. Finishing processes at large-scale introduce more edge variation than smaller print products.

Design for Viewing Distance

Banner design follows a simple rule: the further away it's read, the larger your text and simpler your composition needs to be. A 2×4 outdoor vinyl banner read from 20 feet needs bold, high-contrast text at 3"+ tall at minimum. A 20-foot backdrop at a trade show is seen from 30–50 feet — logos need to be enormous, and messaging needs to make a single clear statement.

Banner Printing FAQ

What's the difference between vinyl and mesh banners?

Vinyl banners are solid material — they catch wind like a sail, which can strain mounting hardware and cause tearing in exposed outdoor locations. Mesh banners have a perforated structure that allows approximately 36% of wind to pass through, dramatically reducing the load on supports. If your banner will be fence-mounted, attached to scaffolding, or displayed in an open outdoor location with significant wind exposure, mesh is the more durable choice. Solid vinyl is appropriate for sheltered outdoor locations and most standard banner applications.

Can I use an outdoor vinyl banner indoors?

Yes — outdoor vinyl works fine indoors, though it's overbuilt for that application. The solvent inks and weatherproof material are designed for outdoor conditions you won't encounter indoors. If your banner will exclusively be used indoors, an indoor banner on photo gloss, photo matte, or canvas will produce better color quality and image fidelity at a lower cost than outdoor vinyl. Use outdoor vinyl indoors only if you plan to also use the banner outside at some point.

What finishing do I need for my banner?

For most outdoor vinyl and mesh banners, grommets are standard and hems are strongly recommended. The combination of a hemmed edge and corner grommets distributes load evenly and prevents the most common failure point — corner tear-outs under wind. For indoor banners and backdrops being hung on a pipe-and-drape or tension system, pole pockets are often more appropriate than grommets. Specify your hanging method in the order notes and we'll confirm the right finishing for your installation.

What resolution do I need for a banner file?

100–150 DPI at the finished banner dimensions. Banners are viewed from distance — the resolution standard that applies to business cards and fine art prints doesn't apply to large-format signage. A 300 DPI file at 4'×8' would be an enormous file with no visible quality benefit over 150 DPI when viewed from 10–20 feet. For panoramic and photo-style banners on photo paper where viewing distance is closer, 150–200 DPI is preferred.

How large can you print?

For vinyl, we can produce custom lengths up to 150 feet and heights up to 16 feet — building wraps, festival perimeters, and stadium-scale graphics are within our capabilities. For mesh banners, up to 30'×10'. Beyond our standard listed sizes, contact us with your dimensions for a custom quote and we'll confirm materials, finishing options, and pricing.

How long do outdoor vinyl banners last?

With proper installation and care, outdoor vinyl banners printed with solvent inks on our reinforced PVC material last 3–5 years in typical outdoor conditions. Lifespan varies based on UV exposure, wind frequency, and how the banner is mounted. Banners in direct high-altitude sun or coastal salt air environments will fade faster than banners in shaded or inland locations. Bringing banners indoors during severe weather extends lifespan significantly.

Can I order a custom size not listed?

Yes. Contact us with your exact dimensions, material preference, and finishing requirements before placing your order. We'll provide a custom quote and confirm production time. For very large or complex banner projects — multi-panel installations, building wraps, custom specialty materials — a consultation before ordering ensures we spec the job correctly from the start.
