Polyester Fabric Banner Printing for Booths and Indoor Displays

Polyester fabric banners are the display choice for artist alley booths, conventions, photo backdrops, and indoor events where appearance and portability both matter. Printed on soft knit polyester using dye sublimation, these banners deliver rich, saturated color with a matte surface that doesn't fight your lighting.

Dye sublimation bonds ink directly into the fabric fibers rather than layering it on the surface. The print becomes part of the material — it won't crack at a fold, peel at an edge, or flake after a season on the road. Fold your banner into a suitcase, hang it at the next show, and it looks the same as it did the first time.

Why Artists and Event Pros Choose Fabric

Vinyl and polypropylene are excellent materials, but they solve different problems. Fabric wins when your display gets photographed, gets packed, and gets used again.

  • Zero glare — matte knit fabric scatters light instead of bouncing it back. No hotspots under convention hall lighting, no blown-out reflection in photos.
  • Folds flat for travel — pack it in a bag instead of hauling a shipping tube through an airport. Creases relax on their own within an hour of hanging.
  • Premium appearance — fabric drapes and reads like a finished display piece rather than temporary signage.
  • Washable and reusable — machine wash cold on a gentle cycle. The print doesn't wash out because it's in the fibers, not on them.
  • Lightweight hanging — works with grid wall, pipe and drape, S-hooks, or a tension frame. No heavy-duty mounting hardware required.

Polyester vs. Polypropylene vs. Vinyl

All three materials print beautifully. The right one depends on where your banner lives and how often it moves.

Polyester Fabric

Soft knit fabric with a matte, glare-free surface and natural drape. Folds flat for travel and washes clean. Best for artist booths, conventions, photo backdrops, and indoor events. Indoor use only. Premium price.

Indoor Polypropylene

Lightweight film with a smooth, semi-gloss finish. Rolls for transport but can crease permanently if folded. Best for trade shows, gallery displays, and retail signage. Indoor use only. Most economical.

Outdoor Vinyl

Heavy scrim vinyl built to survive sun, rain, and wind for 3–5 years. Reflects under direct light and is bulky to store. Best for storefronts, festivals, and grand openings. Mid-range price.

Who Uses Polyester Fabric Banners

  • Convention & artist alley vendors — artists working conventions use fabric as booth backdrops. Fold it into your suitcase, fly to the show, hang it wrinkle-free.
  • Photographers — matte fabric is the standard for portrait and product backdrops. No hotspots under strobes, and it drapes naturally instead of curling at the edges.
  • Craft fair & maker market sellers — weekend vendors who set up and tear down constantly need signage that survives repeated packing.
  • Trade show exhibitors — booth walls, tension display graphics, and step-and-repeat media walls. Pair with custom table covers printed on the same polyester.
  • Wedding & event planners — welcome signage, seating displays, and photo backdrops where a soft matte finish suits the setting better than vinyl.
  • Churches & community venues — stage banners and seasonal signage that get stored between uses and rehung looking fresh.

Popular Fabric Banner Sizes

Standard sizes cover the most common booth, backdrop, and display setups. Custom dimensions are welcome — we print up to 10' wide with no practical length limit. Contact us for a quote on anything outside the standard list.

  • 2' × 6' — artist alley standard
  • 3' × 6' — corner or double booth backdrop
  • 2' × 4' — compact table topper or hanging sign
  • 4' × 8' — large indoor backdrop, stage or event
  • 2' × 8' — long horizontal, table-front runner
  • 3' × 5' — flag proportion, wedding, church, and décor
  • 5' × 7' — photo backdrop sweet spot
  • 8' × 8' — full step-and-repeat
  • 4' × 6' — mid-size all-purpose
  • 6' × 8' — large backdrop, between 4×8 and 8×8

The 2' × 6' is the artist alley standard — it fits behind a 6' convention table and clears the heads of everyone at your booth.

Polyester Fabric Banner FAQ

Will my banner be wrinkled when it arrives?

It ships folded, so expect fold lines out of the box. Hang it and most creases relax within 30 to 60 minutes on their own. A handheld steamer or a warm iron on the back side with a pressing cloth handles anything stubborn — never iron the printed face directly on high heat. This is the tradeoff for a banner that packs flat instead of requiring a shipping tube, and it's why traveling artists prefer fabric.

How should I set up my artwork?

Build your file at final size plus a 1" bleed on all sides — a 24" × 72" banner should arrive as a 26" × 74" file. Keep essential elements at least 2 inches inside the trim, since hems and grommets consume the outer edge. Use 150 DPI minimum at final size, 200 DPI ideal; fabric banners are viewed from a distance, so 150 holds up well at booth scale. RGB or CMYK both work. Two fabric-specific notes: dye sublimation on knit produces slightly softer edges than solvent ink on vinyl, so bump type under 8pt up a size or two; and colors sublimate rich, meaning very dark neutrals can read deeper than your screen suggests. If exact color match matters, order a proof. Upload accepts files up to 20MB — for larger artwork, email art@printkeg.com with your order number in the subject line.

Can I use a fabric banner outdoors?

For a few hours at an outdoor market or festival booth, yes. For anything longer, no — polyester isn't weatherproof and will fade with sustained sun exposure. For displays that live outside for months, use our outdoor vinyl banners instead.

Why does polyester cost more than polypropylene?

Fabric material costs more than film, and dye sublimation requires a heat transfer step that adds production time. You're paying for a banner that photographs without glare, folds without permanent creasing, washes clean, and survives repeated use across an event circuit. For a one-time indoor sign, our indoor polypropylene banners are the better value.

Can I wash a fabric banner?

Yes. Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle with no bleach, then hang to dry — skip the high-heat tumble dry. Because dye sublimation bonds ink into the fibers rather than coating the surface, the print doesn't wash out or fade from cleaning. Between shows, fold and store flat or roll it loosely; either works, since the print won't crack at the fold.

Are fabric banners double-sided?

Standard fabric banners are single-sided. Some ink shows through faintly on the reverse, which is normal for knit polyester.

How do I hang a fabric banner?

Grommets plus S-hooks or zip ties is the fastest setup for grid wall and pipe and drape. For a tensioned look with no visible hardware, request pole pockets in the "messages" field at checkout and slide a rod through the top and bottom.

Can I get a custom size?

Yes. We print up to 10' wide with no practical length limit. Contact us with your dimensions for a quote.

Are these printed in the United States?

Yes. All polyester banners are printed and finished at our facility in Beaufort, South Carolina.

How fast can I get a fabric banner?

Production runs 4 business days plus shipping transit — one to two days longer than our vinyl and polypropylene banners, because dye sublimation adds a heat transfer step. If you're ordering against a convention deadline, build in the extra time or add rush turnaround to speed it up by a day. Need it faster than fabric allows? Indoor polypropylene banners ship quicker.
