Foam Core & Gator Board Signs

Foam core and gator board are lightweight, rigid display prints designed for signage, presentations, convention booths, and gallery artwork displays. They’re popular for trade shows, retail signage, educational exhibits, and studio or office decor because they’re easy to transport, quick to set up, and visually high-impact.

Key Features

  • Rigid, lightweight display signs that travel well
  • Great for easels, booths, lobbies, and point-of-purchase displays
  • Standard and custom sizes available
  • Single- or double-sided printing options (great for hanging signs)

Foam Core Material

Foam core is a 3/16" thick board with a white surface that’s ideal for indoor signage, easel displays, and short-term events. It looks clean and professional, but it can dent or crease if handled roughly. Foam core is not waterproof and is best for temporary or occasional use.

Gator Board Material

Gator board is also 3/16" thick, but it’s built to be more rigid and more durable than foam core. It’s a smart choice for signs that will be transported repeatedly or displayed for longer periods. While gator board holds up better in day-to-day handling, it’s still best treated as a display product (avoid heavy rain or long-term outdoor exposure).

Foam Core vs Gator Board: Quick Pick

  • Choose Foam Core if you want an affordable, lightweight sign for indoor events, presentations, or short-term displays.
  • Choose Gator Board if you need a sturdier, more premium option for repeated use, trade shows, and long-term displays.

Best Uses for Rigid Display Signs

Foam core and gator board are go-to display solutions for creators and businesses who need signage that looks great, sets up fast, and feels professional.

Perfect For

  • Trade shows & booths: brand signs, menus, pricing boards, product highlights
  • Retail & restaurants: promotional signage, POP displays, seasonal offers
  • Schools & events: directional signs, schedules, presentations, exhibits
  • Artists & photographers: mounted display prints for shows, studios, and galleries
  • Real estate: open house and directional signage (short-term display)

Design Tips for Better Results

  • Keep key text 0.25" from edges to avoid trimming risk and improve readability.
  • Use large type for distance viewing (especially for booths and retail).
  • Export print-ready files (PDF preferred) and include bleed if your artwork runs to the edge.
  • Plan for transport: rigid signs can dent—carry flat and protect corners.
