Backlit Film Printing for Lightbox Displays

Backlit film printing is designed specifically for illuminated displays such as lightboxes, menu boards, and retail signage. When light shines through the graphic from behind, the special film material evenly diffuses the light, creating bright colors and high contrast that stand out in any environment.

Backlit graphics are commonly used in retail stores, theaters, restaurants, event venues, and transit stations where illuminated signage is needed. Compared to traditional posters, backlit film produces a brighter and more professional result when placed in a lightbox display.

Printed on durable 9mil polyester backlit film with a glossy protective coating, these prints resist scratching and fading while maintaining excellent image clarity when illuminated.

Backlit film is commonly used for lightbox poster printing in retail displays and transit advertising.

Note: This product is for backlit film printing only. Lightbox frames are not included.

About the Backlit Film Material

Our backlit film is a 9mil, 275-gram polyester material designed specifically for illuminated signage. The semi-rigid film holds its shape well inside display frames while still remaining flexible enough for easy installation.

The coated surface enhances color saturation and helps diffuse light evenly across the image. This creates vibrant graphics that remain clear and readable in both bright and low-light environments.

  • Durable polyester backlit film
  • Scratch-resistant glossy surface
  • Excellent light diffusion for even illumination
  • Suitable for indoor or protected outdoor lightboxes

Backlit Film vs Regular Posters

Some customers attempt to use standard poster prints inside lightboxes, but specialized backlit film produces much better results when illuminated.

  • Backlit Film: Designed to diffuse light evenly for bright, vibrant colors.
  • Regular Posters: May appear dull or uneven when light shines through the paper.
  • Backlit Film: Durable and resistant to heat generated by lightbox fixtures.
  • Regular Posters: Can fade or warp when exposed to constant lighting.

For professional illuminated signage, backlit film is the preferred material.

Common Uses for Backlit Film Prints

  • Retail Displays: Window lightboxes, product promotions, and branded signage.
  • Theaters & Entertainment Venues: Movie posters and event advertisements.
  • Restaurants & Cafés: Illuminated menu boards and promotional displays.
  • Corporate Lobbies: Directory signage and branding displays.
  • Transit Advertising: Posters inside bus shelters and subway lightboxes.
  • Museums & Galleries: Illuminated exhibit graphics and informational displays.

Design Tips for Lightbox Graphics

  • Use bold colors and strong contrast so the design remains readable when illuminated.
  • Avoid very thin lines which may appear lighter when backlit.
  • Test darker backgrounds carefully since illumination can slightly brighten the image.
  • Design at full size to ensure the graphic fits your lightbox frame perfectly.
