Raised Foil Business Cards (For Artists Who Like a Little Drama)
If your art has personality, your business card should too. Raised foil business cards are for artists, photographers, and creatives who want their branding to sparkle, shine, and literally rise above the rest.
These aren’t “toss it in a drawer” cards. They’re pick-it-up-again cards.
Printed on sturdy 16pt cardstock and laminated on both sides with a 1.5mil scuff-resistant, soft-velvet suede laminate, raised foil cards finish at a bold 19pt thickness. Translation: they feel substantial, smooth, and undeniably premium.
The Magic Is in the Raised Foil
The star of the show is the raised metallic foil. Available in gold, silver, and holographic foil, this dimensional finish adds texture you can feel and shine you can’t ignore. Logos, icons, and fine line work get an instant upgrade — like embossing, but cooler.
Pair that metallic pop with the matte softness of the suede laminate, and you get a contrast that artists love: soft vs. shiny, smooth vs. textured, subtle vs. bold.

What Are Raised Foil Business Cards?
Raised Foil business cards are a premium print option that combines dimensional metallic foil with a soft-touch finish. These cards are printed on durable 16pt card stock and laminated on both sides with a 1.5mil scuff-resistant, soft velvet laminate, resulting in a thick, luxurious 19pt finished card.
The raised foil adds both visual shine and physical texture, creating an embossed effect that enhances logos, typography, and graphic elements. This makes raised foil cards ideal for brands, artists, and professionals who want a bold, high-end first impression.
How Do I Set Up Files for Raised Foil Business Cards?
Raised foil printing requires two separate files to ensure accurate foil placement:
- Print File: Your full-color artwork for the card
- Raised Foil Mask File: A separate file that indicates where the foil will be applied
The raised foil mask file is essential. It tells the press exactly which areas of your design should receive the raised foil treatment.
Raised Foil Mask File Requirements
- The mask file must be a vector file
- Create the mask using vector-based software such as Adobe Illustrator
- Use solid 100% black to indicate foil areas (C 0%, M 0%, Y 0%, K 100%)
- White areas indicate where no foil will be applied
- Do not use gradients, shadows, glows, transparency, or grayscale images
Important Design Guidelines for Raised Foil
Knockouts are not recommended. During the foil application process, slight shifts may occur (up to 1/16”). Avoiding knockouts helps prevent misalignment and ensures clean, professional foil edges.
For best results, apply raised foil to bold logos, solid shapes, icons, or thick typography. Simple, high-contrast designs produce the cleanest and most dramatic raised foil effect.
