Raised Foil Business Cards (For Artists Who Like a Little Drama)

If your art has personality, your business card should too. Raised foil business cards are for artists, photographers, and creatives who want their branding to sparkle, shine, and literally rise above the rest.

These aren’t “toss it in a drawer” cards. They’re pick-it-up-again cards.

Printed on sturdy 16pt cardstock and laminated on both sides with a 1.5mil scuff-resistant, soft-velvet suede laminate, raised foil cards finish at a bold 19pt thickness. Translation: they feel substantial, smooth, and undeniably premium.

The Magic Is in the Raised Foil

The star of the show is the raised metallic foil. Available in gold, silver, and holographic foil, this dimensional finish adds texture you can feel and shine you can’t ignore. Logos, icons, and fine line work get an instant upgrade — like embossing, but cooler.

Pair that metallic pop with the matte softness of the suede laminate, and you get a contrast that artists love: soft vs. shiny, smooth vs. textured, subtle vs. bold.

Feature of Raised Foil Business Cards

  • Foil cards can be single or double-sided
  • Three foil colors: gold, holographic, silver
  • Turnaround time is 4–5 days (quality takes time)
  • 16pt cardstock with velvet laminate
  • Classic 3.5" × 2" card size

Understanding Foil Print Options (5/0, 5/4, 5/5)

  • 5/0 (4/0 with Foil on Front)
Full-color printing on the front only, with foil applied to selected areas on the front. The back of the card remains blank with no printing or foil.
Best for: Minimalist designs, logo-focused cards, or artists who want a bold front and a clean back.
  • 5/4 (4/4 with Foil on Front Only)
Full-color printing on both sides of the card, with foil applied only to the front. The back is fully printed but does not include foil.
Best for: Creatives who want a premium, eye-catching front while keeping the back informational.
  • 5/5 (4/4 with Foil on Both Sides)
Full-color printing on both the front and back, with foil applied to selected areas on both sides.

Why Artists Love Raised Foil Business Cards

  • Tactile Texture: People don’t just look at these cards — they touch them.
  • Premium Weight: 19pt thickness feels like quality the moment it hits someone’s hand.
  • Soft-Touch Finish: Velvet-smooth laminate protects your card and your artwork.
  • Metallic Drama: Gold, silver, or holographic foil adds instant visual impact.
  • Perfect for Logos: Raised foil highlights signature marks and branding details.

What Are Raised Foil Business Cards?

Raised Foil business cards are a premium print option that combines dimensional metallic foil with a soft-touch finish. These cards are printed on durable 16pt card stock and laminated on both sides with a 1.5mil scuff-resistant, soft velvet laminate, resulting in a thick, luxurious 19pt finished card.

The raised foil adds both visual shine and physical texture, creating an embossed effect that enhances logos, typography, and graphic elements. This makes raised foil cards ideal for brands, artists, and professionals who want a bold, high-end first impression.

How Do I Set Up Files for Raised Foil Business Cards?

Raised foil printing requires two separate files to ensure accurate foil placement:

  • Print File: Your full-color artwork for the card
  • Raised Foil Mask File: A separate file that indicates where the foil will be applied

The raised foil mask file is essential. It tells the press exactly which areas of your design should receive the raised foil treatment.

Raised Foil Mask File Requirements

  • The mask file must be a vector file
  • Create the mask using vector-based software such as Adobe Illustrator
  • Use solid 100% black to indicate foil areas (C 0%, M 0%, Y 0%, K 100%)
  • White areas indicate where no foil will be applied
  • Do not use gradients, shadows, glows, transparency, or grayscale images

Important Design Guidelines for Raised Foil

Knockouts are not recommended. During the foil application process, slight shifts may occur (up to 1/16”). Avoiding knockouts helps prevent misalignment and ensures clean, professional foil edges.

For best results, apply raised foil to bold logos, solid shapes, icons, or thick typography. Simple, high-contrast designs produce the cleanest and most dramatic raised foil effect.

  • 16pt Card (UV Coating)

This shiny card is subtly thicker than the 14pt stock. The further rigidity prevents folds and creases. Additionally, colors appear extra vivid and glossy due to the stunning UV coating.

  • 16pt Card (Matte Coating)

The matte 16pt variant exudes professionalism and high quality. The colors in your artwork appear a little muted for a sophisticated, subdued effect. Ballpoint pens with oil-based ink and permanent markers write best on this surface.

  • Heavier Cardstocks

Are you looking to go a little fancier with your new business cards? Enjoy whopping 17pt magnet cards, 18pt C1S cardstock, 20pt plastic cards, or 32pt painted-edge business cards.
